Harper Crashes St. Jean Baptiste Day … Without Crashing Any Windows

TodayTomorrow is St. Jean Baptiste day. (It alsoToday happens to be Cookie’s birthday. Happy Birthday Cookie!!). For many this day, which is a statutory holiday in the province of Quebec, is often marked with storefront windows being smashed, looting and it is often tied to the separatist movement within la Belle Province.

I, and probably the churches, find this highly ass backwards. You see, for those who care to make the easy translation Jean de Baptiste is John the Baptist. I am curious how the man who is regarded as a prophet by three religions has become a symbol of vandalism, theft and separation?

Perhaps one of my readers from Quebec can help answer this curiousity.

I was very pleased to hear that our Prime Minister has chosen to take part in some of the celebrations. Not only does it help show Quebecers that he respects the holiday, but it shows he respects them. And I am glad he set a good example by enjoying the day without smashing any windows, without looting, and without promoting separation.

Bonne Fête mes amis en Quebec.

To The Big Smoke, GST means Graft and Sloth Tax – Say No To Option 2!!!

To follow up my idea on suing the City of Toronto for stealing the GST savings the Harper Government has laid in place for us starting July 1st, I have more documentation which you can read here. Scroll down to the Appendix A to view the cost analysis options.

The City itself has gone through some pretty thorough analysis on it’s two options. Option 1 to cut the tax down and change the prices, and Option 2, to leave the end cost the same and pocket the 1% GST cut in a classic example of political graft.

If the City has all these figures already laid out, how much more work could possibly be needed? I have a feeling we will never find out due to the sloth. The city is too lazy to bill people prices that are not round numbers. That’s what it comes down to.

This Summer I Am Going To Sue The City Of Toronto For My 1%… Join Me!!

The City of Toronto is either going to commit fraud or they are liars when they do not extend the 1% GST cut to the residents starting July 1st. If they charge 7% and pocket 1% while sending the 6% on to the feds then they are committing fraud in my estimation. If they simply change the price to compensate for the 1% then they are liars because they are saying it wouldn’t be worth it to change the prices of everything, but in essence, they must do all the calculations to keep the price the same.

In either case, I will be visiting Toronto this summer, and I will be going to a museum and I will be suing them for my 1%. I figure the legal costs alone in defending the small claims court suit will be worth the 1%. The negative press will get Miller canned, which is highly needed. And I hope my showing of solidarity with my brothers in Toronto will help them see that the rest of Canada cares about them and maybe they will elect a few Tories next time around.

Join me. Small claims court cases are easy to file. The City cannot defend itself without showing up which means the legal expenditures to defend itself will get them back into line.

If you are willing to sue the City of Toronto, please sign my comments below. Together we can get Toronto that 1% GST cut they deserve and prevent other companies from following suit and making the GST cut worthless to taxpayers.

Let’s Officially Screw them back!!!!!!

ADDENDUM: How To Sue The City Of Toronto

In light of the interest in this concept, I have provided information below on what you may need to do in order to sue the City Of Toronto.

1) There is a cost to suing. But should you be unable to pay it, there are waivers you can get. If you win, you are also eligible to receive the expenses of filing and setting a court date back in the settlement.

2) This Website has the requirements for suing in small claims court. I urge you to visit and bookmark it.

3) Below is a list of links that will provide you with further information or supporting documentation:

a) Budget 2006 – On page 6 you will find the statement regarding the GST cut which the Conservative Party of Canada has implemented.

b) Toronto Sun Article – Which outlines the City of Toronto’s plan to not offer the 1% GST cut as proposed in the above budget.

c) The Orchestrator – David Soknacki, City Coun. for Ward 43 Scarborough East is the one supporting this concept. I urge you to write him at his email first. This way you can point out that you have raised your concerns. The vote on this issue will take place at the end of June.

d) Toronto Budget Advisory Committee – I urge you to write them as well expressing your disapproval.

e) Budget Advisory Committee Agenda/Minutes – There are no minutes up yet for their end of June meeting, but they will be there eventually and they will probably be your ace in the hole for a court case. Keep an eye on this link.

4)  For those who are golfers, I have screen shots of the current prices for all five City of Toronto golf courses.  Hopefully the prices stay the same and the GST drops.  But if it doesn’t these screen shots may help.

a) Don Valley Golf

b) Dentonia Golf

c) Humber Valley Golf

d) Scarlett Woods Golf

e) Tam O’Shanter Golf

I will post more information as I find it. If you have any other suggestions, please email me.

The Road To Hell Is Paved With Good Intentions

Phantom Observer points out all the “ideas” the Liberals claim were stolen from them by the Conservatives.  But as we all know, the intent to bring forward good legislation and good expenditures was shot down when the Liberals spent their wad on Adscam, the gun registry, hotel stays in Cancun via relocation funds, $1000 limo rides, etc.

It’s a pity they didn’t spend some of that money on tax relief, real social programs, support for our military or the environment.  Instead they chose fraud and graft and OfficiallyScrewed us over for 13 years.  And NOW they come grovelling back.

As the title mentions the road to Hell is paved with good intentions and dat der guy from Shawinigan will be taking one smooth ride down in his luxury golfcart one day.

Trudeau Gets A Mountain, But Where Is Diefenbaker's??

After reading Syncrodox Sez’s article about the naming of a mountain after the Rt. Honourable Pierre Elliot Trudeau, I took it up on myself to do a bit of research on the naming of mountains in Canada after our illustrious leaders.

I did find some interesting facts out though.

1) Wilfred Laurier has 3 (count ’em) mountains named after him.

2) John Diefenbaker has no mountain named after him.

3) Chretien tried having the tallest mountain in Canada named after Trudeau shortly after his death in 2000. The locals around Mount Logan protested hard, and were thankfully, successful in blocking the naming.

4) The average height above sea level of Tory Prime Minister peaks is 3066.25 metres, and the average height above sea level of Grit Prime Minister peaks is 2736.4 metres (when counting all of Laurier’s peaks) and 3004.8 (when counting only Laurier’s tallest peak)

5) The average prominence of Tory Prime Minister peaks is 396.25 metres, and the average prominence of Grit Prime Minister peaks is 825.7 metres (when counting all of Laurier’s peaks) and 812.2 metres (when counting only Laurier’s tallest peak)

A grid showing these features can be seen below (click to enlarge)

I guess the purpose of all this was to point out that I am not upset that Trudeau now has a mountain. But I am now thinking that Diefenbaker deserves a mountain of his own. Why has he been overlooked? Whether or not he was a popular PM, or whether or not he was a long standing PM should also not matter. The man lead our nation and deserves his place in Canadian geographical history with the rest.

Diefenbaker has been Officially Screwed!!

Chretien Delusional That Sponsorship Scandal Is Over. Show Me The Money!!

This does not shock me but after Chuck Guité was found guilty on all five charges relating to the Sponsorship Scandal this week, dat der guy from Shawinigan came up for air.

“He was found guilty, it ends there,” Chretien told reporters Friday in his hometown of Shawinigan.

“I’ve always said, if there were some who stole money, let them go to prison. That’s what’s happening. I said it four years ago when I asked the police to intervene. That’s exactly how the system should work.”

H/T to Dr. Roy on this one

Umm, excusé-moi M. Chretien. But I watch enough cop shows to know that is NOT how it works. You see Chuck Guité has the right to an appeal. And when his lawyers tell him that his chances of overturning the appeal are slim to none, he starts to deal for a lesser sentence. And what does he deal with? Knowledge. What knowledge you may ask? We’ll just have to wait and see what time, and Chuck Guité, reveal.

We want proof about where the money all went. And as you know…A Proof Is A Proof

I Could Have Been His First Blogger

Tossing and turning in the warm Ottawa night and something hit me in my half awake-half asleep stupor.

With regards to the battle between the Prime Minister and the Parliamentary Press Gallery, if they had opened up the list to non PPG people like … ohhhhh … shall we say … ME the MSM could have been drooling over bloggers, much as they were during the election campaign when bloggers such as MK Braaten, Stephen Taylor, Craig Smith and Steve Janke who were busting open stories such as the Income Trust scandal and the exorbitant expenditures for relocation that included hotel bills in Cancun and Hawaii.

But I can just see it now. Had Mr. Harper given an interview to a lowly blogger like me, the MSM would have ripped him a new one with headlines like “Harper gives Officially Screwed Interview” or they could have posted a photo of me next to the PM with a subtitle like “Officially Screwed By P.M.”

Needless to say, Stephen Harper DID give Officially Screwed a brief 90 second interview when I met him at the Senators-Capitals Hockey game on March 2nd. He was both cordial and friendly and showed actual interest in my blog.

But that night I had the luck of being seated a mere 35 or 40 feet from the PM and he took the opportunity for a photo op a scant 10 seats over from where I was sitting. As much as I loved the ease and friendliness he gave when I approached him to say hi and congratulate him on the recent win, I now shudder to think how close someone with bad intentions could have come to him.

In light of the recent news of the intent of one of the Toronto 17 to behead him, I hope our PM takes a far more secure approach to his public appearances. The country needs him to lead for several more years in order to straighten out the mess Dat Der Guy From Shawinigan put us in.

Long live the PM and the BPG (Blogger Press Gallery).

Now back to bed for me.

Smackdown (June 6th, 2006)

In Question Period the following exchange took place today between Liberal Defence Critic, Ujjal Dosanjh, and Minister of National Defence, Gordon O’Connor.

Dosanjh: Mr. Speaker, Could the Minister of National Defence confirm that under International Trade and Arms Regulations, C-17 aircraft that the Canadian government plans to purchase from the United States would carry with it a veto for the U.S. over where in the world that aircraft could be flown?

O’Connor: Mr. Speaker, the government has made no decisions on any equipment, as I’ve said a number of times in this House. But I’d would like to quote the member (Dosanjh) who had a press conference yesterday who said:

“The conservatives campaigned on strategic airlift acquisitions. Once in government, they refuse to deviate from their political platform.”

I can understand why somebody from the liberal party would say something like that because they deviate from their platforms all the time.

Simply Priceless!! Well done Minister.
