Thoughts On The Last Few Days In Canadian Politics

The moment someone labels you something so outrageously false a few things happen.  There is an immediate sense of anger, of defensiveness and even some sense to retaliate. But as calmer heads prevail, you start to think about a) why did they think this, b) how do I convince them this is not true, and most importantly to me c) how can we break away from the cycle spewing vitriol at each other pushing us further and further apart and building walls made with not just bricks but with hatred.

I have been thinking long and hard about what I have seen on my social media the past few days and, to be frank, I am quite disappointed in many of those on all sides of the political spectrum.

Yes, like many, I was quite disturbed at the photos. But I am also extremely upset at those who are being obnoxious about it. The most egregious ones are those who have worked hardest to get away from the false accusations which have been thrown their way for simply being on the right side of the political spectrum. Would it not make for a better world if we all simply took a few breaths when it comes to using the turn “racist” and think about the damaging ramifications it carries with it should someone be incorrectly labelled?

There is enough hypocrisy going around for everyone to wear some of it. And yes, one in particular may need to wear it more. But simply saying “well YOU were worse than me.” is not good enough to better our society. It is simply NOT GOOD ENOUGH.  Because if it is, we are all officiallyscrewed.

Either you are for taxes or against them…..

You can tax a product and then give the money to someone in the form of a tax credit or subsidy.  Or you can constrict the supply of a product through legislation and thus drive the price up of said product and the manufacturer of that product reaps a financial benefit.  It’s two ways of describing the same thing.  One is a tax and the other is supply management but they are in effect the same thing.

So the….ahem….Scheer hypocrisy of Andrew Scheer to fight the Liberal carbon tax but support the dairy cartel is simply that.   Hypocrisy.

Smackdown: Harper on conservatives claiming to be centrist….like Andrew Scheer…and it’s not good for Scheer

I saw a meme which had a comment from current Conservative Party of Canada leader Andrew Scheer about being Centrist and then had a quote by former Conservative Party of Canada leader (and Prime Minister) Stephen Harper about conservatives claiming to be centrist and I thought it was very astute but wanted to fact check.  And lo and behold, it was pretty much true.  I have linked to the Toronto Sun article interviewing Andrew Scheer and Ben Shapiro interviewing Stephen Harper and ummm…did Harper hand Scheer a Smackdown?

Voters will have a clear choice: Scheer ; November 3rd, 2018

““We have an opportunity to say that we are a pragmatic centrist party with room for lots of different views on lots of different issues…”
~Andrew Scheer

Then on the Sunday Special with Ben Shapiro a mere 2 weeks later on November 18th, 2018, at the 5:55 mark of the interview Stephen Harper says this:

“..often you will see the same things happen in Canada, ‘I’m a pragmatist, I’m a centrist’, and of course coming from the mouth of a conservative often means they are actually left of centre but somehow want to be in a conservative party.”

You can view it by clicking the on the video below and the response is at the 5:55 mark.  (You can see the conversation with the question starting at the 4:46 mark.)

So does Andrew Scheer have a problem?  Most conservatives are huge fans of Stephen Harper so I would say yes.  He is OfficiallyScrewed.

The Irony Of Trudeau Junior Needing to Eliminate Supply Management

Many of those who know me know I do not support Supply Management as it artificially changes the price of goods. I used to work for a dairy co-operative and heard the stories of drivers taking their milk loads and dumping them in the middle of a farm field as part of the process of ensuring the supply did not get into the system.

So how did we get to the point of an auto tariff trade war with the USA?

Well back in 1971, Pierre Elliot Trudeau’s government passed the bill authorizing Supply Management.  Little did he know his son would be in power when it became a major sticking point between US/Canada trade relations. Trump is now threatening to levy tariffs on Canadian made automobiles and siting Supply Management (for how little it really affects things) as one of the major reasons why the USA is considering this aggressive trade move.

We are quickly getting to a point in which Baby Trudeau will need to either double down on his father’s legacy and seriously jeopardize Canada’s economy or eliminate the unfair trade practice. Pretty ironic if you ask me. In fact, my view on Baby Trudeau’s stance of measured and proportionate tariffs is this.  We can bloody the nose of the USA with equal tariffs but what good is it if we are buried 6 feet under?

If you don’t agree with me, why not take Amanda Lang’s view on it?  She is not a raving libertarian like me but even she knows if push comes to shove and the USA proceeds with this, our economy in Canada will be crippled.

or in other words…we would be Officially Screwed.

It’s time to get off the sidelines and back into the game

OfficiallyScrewed.com is a website dedicated to logically degrading, demoralizing, and deflating those that our society chooses to shower with press, praise and perfume (not to mention MONEY) for being imbeciles and officially screwing us, usually politically.

We stand for the Average Joe who wonders…

  • Who the hell is running this world?
  • What the hell is this world coming to?
  • When the hell did it change for the worse?
  • Where the hell did all the normal people go?
  • Why the hell is common sense so uncommon?
  • How the hell do we get out of this mess?

To delve deeper, OfficiallyScrewed.com is the brainchild of a fiscal conservative/libertarian who lost it after hearing about the Liberal Sponsorship Scandal. In essence, the feeling was that we were all being “OfficiallyScrewed”.

Not having any other outlet to vent, this site was created in 2005 to provide a voice to it’s creator. Because the bottom line is You either pay attention or pay through the nose. And I would rather pay attention.

Look out world.  I am back….and with a vengeance
