David Miller Raises Rainbow Flag, Takes Down Support Our Troops Decals

God Bless Lowell Green.

This morning he is raving mad and he has a right to be. The leftist mayor of Toronto, David Miller, is calling for Toronto’s firefighters, police, and ambulance services to remove the “We support our troops” magnetic decals off of the cities vehicles.

However, just a few short days ago, the mayor, himself, raised the rainbow flag to kick off Toronto’s Gay Pride parade.

Lowell Green is calling for an immediate boycott of Toronto and I, for one, am joining him.

What I find most ironic about the mayor’s stand is that it was the military that was called in to dig the Big Smoke out of a blizzard back in the days of mayor Lastman.

I encourage Canadians out there to join this boycott until mayor Miller comes to his senses and I encourage everyone to email the mayor at mayor_miller@toronto.ca and let them know that if they continue to insult our troops, we are giving up on this modern day Sodom and Gomorrah.

One more of the many reasons to avoid that festering pit of malice.

Sadly, news just released we lost 3 more soldiers in Afghanistan.

The decision by Mayor Miller and city council to hold a vote on removing decals from city vehicles is an insult to their sacrifice.

For me, Toronto no longer exists.

I have been on a virtual boycott of Toronto since early ’90s. I sure have not made a dent but I do this out of principal more than anything.

It’s todays “All about ME” thinking that continues to hurt all of us. Toronto is constantly screaming poor and calling for money without controlling spending. I have a friend on the verge of bankruptcy because of his money mismanagement. He grosses over $100,000 and nothing to show for it.

So now, because of our lack of courage to stand up for Human Rights, I see that Toronto will now take off Support our Troops to something about a Rainbow. This sounds very political to garner support for the council. But it’s my belief that when we divide our selves up into different factions, we become more divided as a community and therefore a nation. Please understand this when it comes to different cultural communities. We see people being displaced because of dfferent cultures. Peoples do tend to stick with their own cultures but to support a group because of their sexuality, race or background culture or skin colour is discrimination.

Good people for humanitarian reasons are being injured, many fatally in the most volatile environments and Toronto is turning their backs on them for politics.

    Please reconsider.

    Thank you

I’ve been listening to Lowell this morning too and I’m 100% with you on this boycott. I sent Mayor Miller an email letting him know that I have cancelled our family vacation to Toronto this summer; I guess we’ll just head straight to Niagara Falls and skip Toronto altogether.

As long as Toronto keeps electing these wingnuts my family will not visit there! In fact, I think I’ve been turned off Toronto for life now with everything else I’ve been hearing about that City in the past few months – augh!!

    Cheers,

    Caroline

The biggest problem in Toronto is that not enough people were outraged enough by Miller’s consistently leftist policies to bother to vote.

I own and LIVE here, and although I can’t literally boycott the city, I will be doing so in spirit. This is outrageous, and Miller and his NDP council has again shown how out of touch they are with the Canadian mainstream. Along with the new tax measures announced this week, you can pretty much guarantee that when I sell my place, I won’t be staying here in the City of Toronto.

I left Toronto 4 years ago, and have absolutely no desire to return.

I did see a Gay Pride parade that was an image of the Canadian flag, with the maple leaf in the middle and the rainbow colours on either side.

Isn’t defacing a Canadian flag a crime??? You can’t just create a new flag and say….it’s not defacing the old one it’s based on.

    Hurray!

Toronto city council backs down, votes unanimously to keep support our troops decals on municipal vehicles.

Amazing what we can accomplish when we band together. Canadians are a force to be reckoned with.

    Go Lowell, Go!
    I agree entirely.

But how does one “boycott Toronto”?

    Cheers!

Wow – many poster here seem to have mentalities that are stuck in the 50s. Amazing and sad, really. I thought that our soldiers fought in past wars so that we could move beyond this sort of thinking. Your linking the lack of support for war in this country to the gay issue is nauseating to say the least.

The link is that if this were a question of not picking sides on contentious matters, then Miller is a hypocrite.

Does Philippe know that our soldiers are fighting against a terrorist group that would kill gays…just for being gay?Kinda puts a certain perspective on the mission.

Responding to VF’s comment:”Does Philippe know that our soldiers are fighting against a terrorist group that would kill gays…just for being gay?Kinda puts a certain perspective on the mission.”

I support our troops, and cherish the sacrifice that they have made and continue to make for myself, and every other Canadian.

What Phillipe objects to, and what I object to, is to the unsustainable argument comparing an inclusive celebration with a political fiasco perpetrated by the mayor, and arbitrarily pitting gay rights against support for our troops.

Trust me, there are many, many gay men and women soldiers fighting in Afghanistan, defending your constitutional right to express yourself and label us a “modern day Sodom and Gomorrah”. Kinda puts a certain perspective on the mission, wouldn’t you say?

David Miller is main reason why most people have a cynical distrust towards municipal politicians. Mr. Miller is completely self absorbed with his own personal agenda. I once saw on the news that he made a refusal to issue a bill to renovate local city recreation areas. Instead, the money went to renovating his office and placing a state of the art surround sound entertainment system as a “deserved bonus”. Miller is nothing more than a Liberal bigot who would rather go for his own interests than for the interests of his constituents. I just don’t understand why Toronto withholds a strong Liberal base. It’s like they’re living in the twilight zone.
