The story below just blows me away with pride. Our Prime Minister has clearly shown Canada that he is a leader. Today he showed the world.
Members of the Francophonie summit have agreed to a compromise on a contentious resolution after Prime Minister Stephen Harper blocked the original proposal.
The original wording of the resolution recognized Lebanon’s suffering in this summer’s 34-day conflict, but not Israel’s.
Harper took a strong stance against the Egyptian-proposed resolution which most of the 72 members supported. He urged the organization to recognize the suffering of both nations.
After returning to the conference table to hammer out the wording of the resolution, the French-speaking states eventually agreed unanimously to support a compromise that called for the end of hostilities and a return to calm.
“They spent much of the afternoon at the conference table re-drafting a resolution with the wording Harper wanted,” said CTV’s Rosemary Thompson reporting from the summit.

I was so proud that our Prime Minister made those at the conference stop being political, and start being concerned human beings. He very quietly, and with great statesmanship showed the other countries just how small minded they were being.
Great job Prime Minister Steven Harper, great job!!

That’s leadership at it’s best. I’m so proud.

This country has been so devoid of actual leadership for the last god knows how many years. Mr. Harper is such a refreshing change. I’m unpacking my bags, I think I may just stay awhile….

Shere, you and me both. Last election I told my wife if the Liberals win again, we are moving south.
But to add to your point it is not just the country that is devoide of actual leadership but the world community is also devoid of it. I think political correctness has let so many non leaders step up and take advantage of global situations. Harper is not just going to fix Canada, but he is helping fix the world.

Martin would have signed it and lied to us that a final draft is still in the making , plus he’d want to be fair and not takes sides on a delicate issue.
BTW, I was proud when the media tried to corner Harper after Paul Martin told the Trornto Star he sides with Layton and doesn’t support the mission, Harper didn’t waste time on a 3 minute Liberal answer that says nothing and yet takes both sides , he mocked the lack of leadership by Liberals and calmly stated that “That’s why Paul martin in no longer the PM”.
Question Period is becoming a comedy show, the Liberals can’t understand that Harper in following through with the Election promises , one Lib MP actually mocked his own party with using the 13 years of inaction to ask why the PM is in such a hurry and not reviewing the major issues the Liberal did squat about.

Balanced reporting in the Globe and Mail. This morning there is an article stating that Prime Minister Harper’s stance at La Francophonie was further evidence of his pro-Israel stand.
I thought Canada was supposed to take a balanced stand. Is that what the Prime Minister asked La Francophonie to do?

The sad part about this that Harper had to take a stand. What’s the matter with that bunch of sick scum who don’t think that Isreali women and children killed deliberately don’t count as much as the Lebanese civilians who died?
We should pull out of the Francophonies if that is the best they can come up with.

Roger I saw that comment. It was hilarious to see them trying to waste more dollars to review programs sitting in front of lawyers and commissioners for 13 years.
Eric, when inequality is the norm, screaming for equality makes one look lopsided. The Mop and Pail apparently utilizes this to the extreme.
Stan, I thought the same thing but then I thought perhaps the Francophonie just needs some leadership the way Canada did. Perhaps Harper being there and doing what is right will rub off and the whole world will be a better place for it.

Same planet, different worlds. The Liberals just can’t figure out Stephen Harper and it scares the crap out of them.

“Same planet, different worlds. The Liberals just can’t figure out Stephen Harper and it scares the crap out of them.”
Neo: I disagree. They are indeed scared of him, but not because they can’t figure him out. Far from it. The SEE clearly what he is all about…and that is why they are scared. He does what he says, believes in what he says, and doesn’t need to have a consensus to make a decision. He is a real leader. Period. Starkly different to back-room liberal corruption, or endless in-action on issues of imprtance, and he does it without worrying about vote-buying, AKA hoarding budget surpluses to be used to buy those votes needed after the latest scandal.
Even if I was a Dipper or a Liberal( thank god I’m not!) I could be proud of him on the world stage. His speach at the U.N. or the Frank-phoney B.S convention, he consistantly displays real statesman-like leadership and qualities not seen in a Canadian politician in multiple decades. Those on the left that disagree with his policies cannot find fault with his ability to cut through the ‘crap’ so often seen in modern political discourse. He tells it like it is, and doesn’t determine his position based on the latest popular opinion winds blowing at any given moment. In a word: CONVICTION

i do take your point… when framing my post in a somewhat facetious context, i take liberty with facts
