York University Professor Likens "Sexting" To "Spin The Bottle"

York University Professor Peter Cummings has likened “Sexting” to “Spin The Bottle”.

For those who are unaware, “sexting” is a play on the word “texting” and refers to someone taking nude photos of themselves and sending via cell phone to others.

Peter Cumming, an associate professor at York University in Toronto, presented a paper on children’s sexuality at the 78th Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences defending the practice as a modern variation on “playing doctor or spin-the-bottle.”

This is, quite simply, a travesty. It takes a big step forward in the degradation of our youth when someone in the education field indicates that it is a modern right of passage the way “spin the bottle” was years ago.

I do agree with the professor that youth should not be prosecuted for this. I would go so far as to say the same “of similar age” defense should apply to this. But the fact remains that indicating that “sexting” is as acceptable as a kissing game is not even close to hitting the mark.

The ramifications of “spin the bottle” is perhaps a cold sore or perhaps even mononucleosis, both of which are not the end of the world. But when someone has their nude photos potentially spread all over the internet the outcome is potentially far worse.

That this person is an educator, and someone we entrust our children to, makes it that much worse.

Jack Layton is Canada's Barney Frank

Today in Power Play, Jack Layton said that a reasonable credit card rate is needed for low income Canadians.  Jack Layton is dead wrong.

Good credit card rates are given to people who have a history of paying their cards off.  Bad credit card rates are how banks and lending institutes pay for cards that people default on.

So why is Jack Layton our version of Barney Frank?
In 1999, Democrat Barney Frank called for Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae to provide low income mortgages to Americans known as NINJA loans.  NINJA stood for No Income, No Job or Assets.  So in essence, what the Democrats, under Bill Clinton, did was to create the conditions for the sub prime implosion that has caused the current recession by allowing people who had no business owning a home to get one at great rates usually reserved for people with Jobs, Income or Assets that are used as collateral.
If you doubt the validity of this, you can read the article at the NY Times by clicking here.

So today, Jack Layton feels that Canadians who are not eligible for low interest rates should get them in a similar fashion to what Barney Frank called for back in 1999.

The whole reason there are different credit card rates is many fold.  One is for points options or freebies.  But the main reason is because people who have no business getting credit often default on their payments and put their credit rating in further disarray.  This in turn makes it almost impossible for them to get a half decent rate.

So the question that Jack Layton needs to answer is…..Does he expect the tax payer to bailout people who have bad credit when they default on the credit cards they have no business getting in the first place?

Harper Playing Chess, Dion/Layton Playing Checkers

A friend of mine told me he thinks while PM Stephen Harper is playing Chess, the opposition parties are playing Checkers.

Harper may have us all convinced he made a mistake to put the Political Party funding cut into the recent fall economic statement. But I am starting to think that the man knew that this would coalesce the opposition parties and that joining with separatists would destroy the Liberal and NDP support that comes from Canadians tired of giving in to Quebec.

I think while Harper is parrying and attacking and defending and thinking five moves ahead of everyone else, Dion is scrambling forward yelling “king me….king me”.

Smackdown: Charles Adler Goes One On One With Dipper Alexa McDonough And Kicks Butt

When I asked McDonough to name one single fact in the Karzai speech that was untrue, she said this issue wasn’t about the truth. The former boss of the New Democratic Party spoke volumes with that little chestnut. Ideologues care little about the truth.

The NDP could learn a lot from the graciousness of the Afghan leader. He has far more respect for our military than the NDP does. And it isn’t because military communications people laid down a few words on a piece of paper to help him get his message across. It’s because they laid down their lives to give his people an opportunity to have a life.

I don’t know if it can be said any clearer than that.

In this interview Charles does what he does best. He puts the facts out for Alexa and she trips on them over and over and over. A must listen.

Listen to the whole interview with McDonough.

The Supreme Court Had Ruled … (but Citoyen Dion doesn't care)

When the highest court in the land makes a ruling, there isn’t a whole lot that can be done to change that ruling. The 9 member panel that is often divided on issues makes decisions regularly without a unanimous consensus. The whole reason for having an odd number of justices on the highest court of the land is to make sure there is not a tie on decisions.

Although a few weeks late, I came across some video which shows Stephane Dion disrespecting the Supreme Court’s decision on the constitutionality of the anti-terror measures which the Liberals voted against extending. (well, all Liberals present except Tom Wappell.)

Dion claims that the divided court means it is a contentious issue.

No Stephane. A divided court that has ruled means the decision is made and the majority wins.

Garth Turner The Pot Calls Kettle Black

Chucker Canuck has found the post Garth Turner removed from his blog and has reposted it as it was originally put online. In this post, Garth calls Stephen Harper a political whore.

The transformation is now complete. Harper is a political whore. And he joins a long list who have gone before him, using his office and the treasury of tax dollars it brings to reward his own people, and then try to buy off the rest of the country.

(remember those bolded words)

But that’s not the only part that gets my goat. Garth also says the following:

But Kellie Leitch, chair of pediatric surgery at the University Hospital in London, where she deservedly earns four times more than the average family, does not need more money.

Now correct me if I am wrong, but does Garth Turner not have millions tucked away from all his business dealings? Did he not make more than 4x what the average family did when he was in the private sector?

So let’s break this down. It’s not ok for Kellie Leitch, but it’s fine for Garth.

So let’s look at this from another perspective. Why did Garth join the Liberal Party? He tries to say that he found people with similar political views to his, but we all know Garth has been a conservative, right leaning politico all his life and that has not changed.

The only real reason Garth joined the Liberals was so he could fund raise and give out nice cushy 75% tax receipts in the next election, whenever that is. Due to his previous independent status, this was not a luxury he had. This way he, himself, can start “using his office and the treasury of tax dollars it brings to reward his own people.” i.e. his financial supporters.

So instead of using his own funds as he thinks Kellie Leitch should, Garth sold out his political views and joined the Liberals so he could give out tax receipts which, in turn, meant that he could get more money for campaigning.

So who’s the political whore?
