Say No To A Liberal/NDP Coalition And Tell the Governor General
Now is the time to act.
Everyone needs to let the Governor General know they oppose the Liberal/NDP coalition government.
You can write the GG by emailing her at
You should address the email with the following
Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean
Governor General of Canada
Rideau Hall
1 Sussex Drive
Ottawa, Ontario
K1A 0A1
Reasons you can site are:
-The Liberals and NDP together have fewer seats than the Conservatives.
-Any coalition would need to be propped up by separatists
-Each and every confidence vote made under a coalition would only come with concessions to the Bloc further increasing the fiscal imbalance and angering non Quebecers.
I urge everyone to write her TODAY and ask your friends to do the same.
Flood her office.

According to a report in the Globe and Mail, Ned Franks, a “renowned Canadian constitutional expert” stated:
“In the current situation, the three opposition parties would have to produce a written agreement guaranteeing support for a Liberal government or a Liberal-NDP coalition, Mr. Franks said. The agreement would have to be made public and it would have to specify that it remained in effect for a set period of time.”
This means that the Bloq would first negotiate the terms for the functioning of the Government of Canada, effectively giving the separatists control of the country.

I Sent this:
Dear Governor General
The Canadians who voted or were eligible to vote in the last election were not offered an opportunity to vote for or against a government composed of socialists and separatists. This would represent a radical change to Canada’s history of centrist government with only minor differences in policy.
It would be essential to force an election to allow these Canadians to indicate their approval or disapproval of such a radical change in our government.
There is no precedent in this country’s past which would permit a single unelected indivdual to impose this change on the people of Canada. It would bring into question the very structure of the government and almost certainly lead to the elimination of the Governor General of Canada’s office.
I implore you to act responsibly if called on to dissolve this current recently elected government,

The Coalition of the Entitled are going to submit a stimulus plan,
to change the course of the elected government,
a course the Opps have yet to see because the budget has yet to be tabled.
The economic update is NOT a budget.
The government has asked the Opps repeatedly for input for a stimulus package, (we all witnessed the repeated request in QP), Bloc obliged,
Iggy said ”no way, Harper is going to wear this recession”.
Power grab, plain and simple.

I wrote the following:
Dear Governor General,
In October, almost two-thirds of Canadians voted for parties of the centre-left. Through a strange error of the electoral system, a party whose opinions represent those of only about a third of Canadians ended up seizing power.
It is your democratic responsibility, on behalf of popular sovereignty and representative democracy, to nullify the Conservative Party government and recognize one that actually represents the Canadian consensus.

No one was expecting this a week ago. I was totally resigned to at least another two years of Harper government. I am a Liberal.
But Flaherty did something completely unacceptable for anyone who believes in demcoracy. I know Conservatives are furious that they did not win a majority government. That rage is palpable on most of the Blogging Tory websites. But the voters have spoken and principled citizens must abide by the results.
All Falherty had to do was get the support of one of the opposition parties to pass his legislation. (Yes you are angry you do not have a majority) But there are no two ways about it. Flaherty and Harper did not do this very obvious job. They have demonstrated gross incompetence and should resign or be removed before they cause more damage.
Members of the Conservative party that would complain that somehow democracy has cheated them are
unprincipled. It is a betrayal of the country to spread untruths about how our democracy works.
Harper created this mess and must go. And cynicism about democracy is a moral corrption and also must go.

The next time a Canadian Prime Minister is considering various candidates to fill the post of the Governor General position it is hoped that he will recollect the political situation that is currently being played out on Parliament Hill.
It is no secret that the Prime Minster appointed the current GG strictly on an affirmative action basis thereby expecting immeasurable political gains amount women, immigrants and French voters.. Unfortunately the PM didn’t appear to judge it an critical negative that Mrs. Jean had no appropriate education, training and/or noteworthy qualifications for the position.

Point of Information on comment number 8. The current Governor General was selected by the previous Liberal government.

Harper said he was going to try to reintroduce a measure of civility into this parliament and then six weeks later blatantly slapped the opposition across the face. What kind of leadership is that? This whole debacle is the last thing the country needs right now and I fear the divisions this will produce in the country if the opposition parties are successful in forming a coalition government. However, this is not about Stephane Dion looking for a backdoor to becoming Prime Minister – he’ll be gone in 6 months anyway. Unfortunately, Canadian politics are immensely fractured and not likely to mend anytime soon, but the kind of brinkmanship and disrespect Harper brings to office makes it worse. At least a coalition government would be an admittedly imperfect step towards a small measure of cooperation.
The idea that this would give “separatists control of the country” is such an over-blown assertion, it barely deserves mention. The bloc Quebecois is fundamentally a party that represents regional interests, the same as the Reform party did, and really the same as the current Conservative Party does, beneath the thin cloak of the former PC party. What it would do is give power to the majority of elected officials in Parliament and prevent Harper from bullying his way through a minority government, as if he had a mandate from the majority of Canadians.

I wish Harper could call election now.
Put the ball in the NDP Bloc and LIberal -
Lets see what happens -The CDN Gov’t cannot continue the way it is now.

G G. in regards to the resent plot to take down the conservatives. As a tax paying canadian I have had enough. we did not vote for the ndp. liberals and of course the bloc. these sore losers should be thrown out of the house. the liberals hit their alltime low for votes due you think canadians want this guys running the country. lets all give our heads a shake say no to the non confidence vote and lets get on with buisness. Im sure their are far more important things to due than be a bunch of sore losers like fixing the economy.

Thanks for the email – I wrote to her today in favour of the Coalition.
I have no idea why any Canadian would agree the “we did not vote in the Liberal/NDP/Block” propaganda. Guess what – Canada did vote for them, and in enough numbers to build this coalition.
Continue to push this mess to the conservative media – but anyone who knows anything about Minority Governments knows that this is what it was designed for.

Re 13:
Canada is a Confederation. I has 10 provinces and 1 federal government.
Th conservatives won 6 provinces
The Libs won 3 provinces
The Bloc won 1 province
The NDP won 0 provinces.
The conservatives won 7 (including federal) the coalition won 4
The conservative are more representative than the coalition!!!

The comments here are obviously partisan – for the record I voted Conservative (and would have voted for Obama if I were an American).
I do not understand how Harper blew it. While I can see the opposition being upset about being cut off from the public trough, Flaherty backed away from this. The concept of moving up the budget by 2 months in response to the economic situation and introducing a stimulus package in the context of an overall budget seems prudent. This is obviously a socialist (a bad word in the US; I have friends in Canada who call themselves socialist) ploy to seize power; but at what cost?
A coalition that includes (depends on) the Bloc – a) it’s tantamount to treason, and b) it won’t (better not) work (or we’ve really given up on this country). As a Conservative I secretly hope the Liberals (aka, the panderers) and NDP (aka, the naive idealists) do get their way. It will end badly for them and we have a real shot at a realistic conservative government that can lead us through this challenging time.
