Ontario Debt By Premier

This is why we need change in Ontario.

The NDP under Bob Rae blew open the debt following David Peterson

The Liberals under McGuinty blew open the debt following the Harris/Eves governments

And the Liberals under Kathleen Wynne are so fiscally irresonsible that they are worse than heavy spender Dalton McGuinty.  Wynne is not a Liberal.  She is a hard core socialist.

This budget is absolutely ridiculous. Forget about what one thinks about the idea, this is akin to maxing out two credit cards and rather than finding a way to pay those off, you go get a third one. As much as I disagreed with Dalton McGuinty, he at least had some fiscal sense unlike Wynne. Although I hope for PC majority, which is what we need, an NDP government would be less bad than a Liberal one led by Wynne. Hopefully Hudak is able to make this case to the voters over the next 5 weeks. I know many dislike him personally or think he is too right wing, but he needs to remind people this about who can do the job best, not who you would most like to have a beer with. Also his focus should be on deficit reduction and job creation and avoid union bashing (even though I cannot stand them, that tends to scare away the moderate swing voter who he needs).

Finally those who oppose the Liberals need to donate financially to the PCs (I have) since they need the money to counter all the lies the Working Families Coalition will spew.

Good work but graph needs minor repair.
1986-1987 is missing or 1985-1986 is mislabeled.
And 1996-1997 is mislabeled as 1996-1998.
    Hope this helps…

Shiny Pony new PM. Like stupid father, taxes Alberta Oil leaving nothing for Alberta and gives all loonies to Ontario and Quebec. What could be more idiotic yet simple.

Problem solved. I’m from Montana and even I worry about where this might go.

Ontario should just go full bore and continue electing left wing governments until the province defaults. The US and Canada need a North American example of fiscal default and it needs to come home to roost under a left wing government. Default will also enable the province to tear up all union contracts and raid public sector retirement accounts, as Detroit has done.

Nothing else will teach voters a lesson, especially the pigheaded voters in Ontario. I have family members there and they are your typical left wing Ontario residents, they see voting for the Liberals as a point of Canadian pride, as if Canada is forging some unique path and some shining example of progressive politics. An ongoing repudiation of the Bush years in the US… it’s sad but it really is that petty. There so emotionally invested in this narrative that policy arguments are neither here nor there.

In my mind this election is the last chance for the progressive conservatives to come into power while still having some room to work. In another few years the debt will be so out of control that even trying to address the deficit would be like knocking over a house of cards – it was going to happen sooner or later, but the person who actually did the knocking is the one who gets blamed. At that point it is better to let the people who created the disaster clean it up.
