And The Arar CopyCats Have Started Cropping Up

This morning I heard that there is now a case of a man who claims Canada played a part in his human rights abuse.

He came to Canada as a refugee and Canada refused him and deported him back to Egypt where he was, allegedly, beaten and tortured.

CTV News has now obtained photographs and videotape, allegedly of the same man, which show fresh injuries on his back. They appear to be burns and welts, which he claims were inflicted by Egyptian authorities. He alleges that, since he was sent back, two security officers from Egypt’s State Security Investigations (SSI) have detained, interrogated and threatened him several times. He also claims he was shocked with electricity, doused with water and beaten.

CTV News has also obtained an audiotape recording, which his supporters said is the man pleading for help.

“I feel very afraid. Very afraid. Save me please. They tortured me. They tortured me a lot all over my back,” the man on the tape said. “They told me, we decorated your back like your Jesus. All my body was shaking. I could not control myself.”

“They were laughing. They were laughing. Let your Jesus come to save you.” The man broke down in tears. “Please, I beg you, I beg you save me, save me. Save my life.”

I feel for anyone who is tortured. I hope that whoever did the actual torture should rot in hell. But I am NOT willing to let Canada take responsibility for this.

How much do you want to bet a lawsuit as big as Maher Arar’s is in the works? Remember, Arar is suing for $300 to $400 Million dollars.

    There will be no lawsuit.

Arar has an action going because he is a citizen of Canada and was reasonably entitled to more of a defence than what he actually got.

This man, on the other hand, is not a citizen of Canada but a refugee claimant. The most that could happen is that his claim would be re-opened.

If this actually happened, the MSM is once again glossing over the real story which is the treatment of Christians (and Jews for that matter) under Islamic rule. Allegedly, this man is Christian and thereligionofpeace.com has a number of documented cases of how non-Muslims are mistreated in Egypt. But yes, the Arar copy-cats will begin to surface for the “me too money.”

If this man was sent away illegitimately, then he has all the right in the world to start a lawsuit. Playing politics with honest refugees is beneath our Canadian moral standards. We’ve always treated our refugees with dignity and respect. We are a country of refugees, you remember?

But you don’t seem to care about that. Money is all you’re worried about. And what does it matter, you’re in and he’s not. SCREW THEM.

    Nice Christmas attitude!

Vince (#3), Pick one name to comment with and stick with it please. You will not be warned a second time.

Now to respond to your comment, if he was sent away it was not illegitimately but erroneously. Canada is not a nation that is here to compensate victims who are tortured or beaten in their home country.

And YOUR country may be one of refugees, but Canada is not. Most citizens here either immigrated legally or are descendents of people who immigrated here legally.

I already thought you had no morals. The idea that most people came here so-called legally is a laughable one, if the real history wasn’t so grim. Never heard of the Canadian Holocaust? I pity white people, who write their own laws, and then consider themselves on the right side of “the law”.

This refugee did a legitimate appeal for refugee status. Only asswholes like you, who think they can apply their own rules in a way they see fit, would send a refugee back. There clearly was enough reason to believe he would be punished back home. Result? Very similar to Mr. Arar. Tortured.

Go ahead, screw honest people, in this case an honest Christian, by sending them back to their home country to be tortured, and feel great about it, proud if you will. But I think is the lowest you can do. Canadians are compassionate people, reaching out for people in trouble.

It looks like you are not that Canadian after all.

“Vince”, since it appears you know NOTHING about the UN Conventions Relating to the Status of Refugees (r.1951 & 1967) spend a little time and educate yourself before you embarrass yourself with another bleeding heart finger pointing session. Country of refugees indeed. What drivel… and a racist to boot!

Don’t waste your time with the troll, Mulder. The most common cause for someone to be rejected as a refugee claimant is having already claimed refugee status in another country. There are several other criteria for refusing a refugee. If you’re interested in the subject, shoot me an email… but I’m guessing your conclusion (Arar wannabe) is on the money.

Hi Mac, calling me a racist while you consider an honest refugee “on the money” is racist indeed.

Vince you use some interesting language. You would be better off keeping your mouth shut. Being overseas does not hide who you are.

“Never heard of the Canadian Holocaust? I pity white people, who write their own laws” This sentence tells me the most about you. I bet you really hate Jim Prentice for taking away YOUR unaccountable cash cow and working to give it back to your people instead.

Tell Ken, Jerry, Peter, Donnie and Kurt I said hi.

Who said I was overseas? I’m closer than you think, so you start worrying yourself.

Keep sending people back to be tortured; you’ll be dealing with the blowback later, right?

I believe mr arrar should be given the sum of one
Canadian dollar $1.00. for punitive damages and another one dollar $1.00 for his pain and suffereing.
Following this settlement deportation with a free airline ticket to a country of his choice would be appropriate. Perhaps if we are feeling generous that day we would give mr Layton a one way ticket to escort him.

I’m sick of people who play the race card, as we see above. I call BS on that.

I also call BS on this ‘Christian’ refugee’s claim.

I have several friends from Egypt, all Christian and they say this guy’s story is a crock.

As soon as I heard it on the news I thought ‘here we go, The Woodwork Creaks and Out Come the Freaks. Must credit that wonderful remark to Steve Hart at The Opinion Mill, he’s a great writer.

I expect to see more of these cases now, some people have no shame – or ethics for that matter.
