Sometimes Life Just Smiles On You…

… and those are the days you feel light in your step and walk around whistling and making everyone at work despise you for being in a good mood.

Sunday I was out all day as my daughter was competing in a local invitational tournament I was emcee-ing. Now for those who remember, Cookie finished 17th of 17 at provincials two years ago. And last year she moved up to 7th out of 13 in her age group.

Well at this local invitational, there were 8 ladies in her age group which is about half the total competition for the provincials in a couple of months. Cookie ended up taking a bronze in her free routine, a 5th place in her ball routine and she nailed her ribbon routine for the gold, taking a silver overall and another silver with her duo partner.

This all bodes well for a great showing at this years provincials.

Then I come home Monday night and hear that Charles Adler is not going to sue me for using his voice in a Smackdown!! (phew!!) In fact, I hear he gave me some compliments on the air which I am ecstatic and very appreciative of. Mr. Adler is a well known and well respected sanity check expert calling people out on all types of issues where a sanity check is needed. I took the liberty of cropping the compliments he gave me and turning them into an MP3 you can listen to below.

Citizen Columnist Randall Denley Bitchslaps Stephane Dion … And Good!!

Typically, articles like this one get people fired within the Asper empire. I am glad someone like Randall Denley has the reputation and popularity to not care. In this article, Denley is like a chop shop for Liberal leaders.

I’ve just met Liberal leader Stephane Dion for the first time and I have to say, it was a frightening experience. The thought that this fellow could become the prime minister of Canada ought to alarm us.

That quote isn’t even the half of it. You may need a Citizen account to read the whole thing but here is the closing line.

I’m not a natural consumer of the Liberal brand, but as a voter, I like to feel that I have two valid choices. With Stephane Dion as Liberal leader, that’s not the case. Dion would have us believe he’s qualified to be prime minister. If he thinks that, he’s kidding himself. Let’s not let him kid us, too.

And in between those two quotes is paragraph after paragraph of Dion taking it on the chin from Denley on every issue under the sun.

China's Coal Powered Plants Wet Blanket For Kyoto

562

Remember that number.

It is the number of coal fired plants that China plans to open in the next few years. Add in the USA and India (all three exempt or not signatories to Kyoto) and the number of plants goes up to 850.

…the implications of this planned coal-fired plant construction in China, India and the U.S. It estimated these 850 plants will put five times more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than Kyoto is designed to remove, even if every other country, including Canada, miraculously hits its Kyoto target.

Pause for a second and reread that statement. Five Times what Kyoto would remove if every nation hits its target. Wow.

Lorrie Goldstein is taking on the Kyoto challenge and doing a great job. In this article he outlines how the biggest polluters are not included in Kyoto.

Something that I would like to add is that the Kyoto Protocol considers Saudi Arabia a “developing country” too which means the Saudis are not being penalized for pumping petroleum into the world while nations like Canada are.

For more, I urge people to read Lorrie Goldstein regularly. He is doing a good job trying to educate Torontonians on the myths surrounding Kyoto.

OfficiallyScrewed.com Outpaces Toronto Star

In 2006, this blog hired no one. But we also did not have to restructure and lay off anyone either.

(disclosure: we are not a company and their is only one person who blogs here…me. I am the marketing department, the news department, the sports department, the editorial department, the financial department, etc.)

But TorStar Corporation, the parent company of the Toronto Star newspaper, announced they would be restructuring and laying off about 85 employees. The cause, according to local radio, was lower revenues from advertising.

TORONTO, ONTARIO – December 20, 2006 – Further to the formation of the Metroland Media Group and the Star Media Group, Torstar today announces that its newspaper division has undertaken a combination of voluntary and involuntary restructurings which will result in a net reduction of approximately 85 positions. Torstar expects that the restructuring charge, which will be recorded in the fourth quarter, will be approximately $11.0 million. The savings associated with this initiative are expected to be in the range of $5.5 million annually.

This tidbit is meant to be a bit of inspiration for all you bloggers out there. The MSM is taking their hits and it is showing.
