OfficiallyScrewed.com Outpaces Toronto Star

In 2006, this blog hired no one. But we also did not have to restructure and lay off anyone either.

(disclosure: we are not a company and their is only one person who blogs here…me. I am the marketing department, the news department, the sports department, the editorial department, the financial department, etc.)

But TorStar Corporation, the parent company of the Toronto Star newspaper, announced they would be restructuring and laying off about 85 employees. The cause, according to local radio, was lower revenues from advertising.

TORONTO, ONTARIO – December 20, 2006 – Further to the formation of the Metroland Media Group and the Star Media Group, Torstar today announces that its newspaper division has undertaken a combination of voluntary and involuntary restructurings which will result in a net reduction of approximately 85 positions. Torstar expects that the restructuring charge, which will be recorded in the fourth quarter, will be approximately $11.0 million. The savings associated with this initiative are expected to be in the range of $5.5 million annually.

This tidbit is meant to be a bit of inspiration for all you bloggers out there. The MSM is taking their hits and it is showing.

I think the RED STar should be free. I think it would be useful for catching dripping paint and splatters. I think it would work good to line my cat’s box and despite disbelief they still say that fish and chippies taste best in newsprint.

See it is good for something.

Who is Mandy Wrewned? A Star employee? Not that it matters; the paper that launched a thousand platitudes, that never saw an immigrant torture victim it didn’t like, that still thinks the Canadian Bill of Rights advanced Canadian rights, that dreadful rag, deserves all it gets, which, this Christmas I hope will be a lump of coal.

Even in the ’50s, my Dad called the Star the Voice of the Liberal Party. They gush over dimwits like McGuinty and Dion and criticize anyone who hasn’t succumbed to the propaganda.

Their editorials are so amateur I only read them for laughs.

Not going to print is where things are heading, so it’s not a weakness, it’s a strength.

Bloggers do it for love, MSMers do it for money and you know what that makes them.

No layoffs or red ink at Caveat either!

To the crackpots such as the one above who like to whine on blogs whose viewpoints differ from theirs: If you don’t like what you see, go elsewhere – there are thousands of blogs out there. Unlike the MSM, the power is not concentrated in the hands of a few people.

I’d say start your own but based on the level of literacy displayed, I doubt you’d do well at it.
