Stephane Dion Just Can't Get It Right – Flip Flops On Marc-Yvon Côté Remarks

FlipFlopsAfter the backlash in the press yesterday Citoyen Dion is backtracking on his comments about reinstating banned party members.

“Certainly, you cannot exclude forever people who made mistakes,” he was quoted as saying. “And someone who has even, I believe, recognized their error.”

Yesterday, Mr. Dion backtracked, insisting that he would have no involvement in reinstating Mr. Côté and suggesting it probably will not occur.

“I am not seeking to reopen that issue and there’s not an application [from Mr. Côté] as far as I know. There is a procedure we follow,” Mr. Dion said, asserting that party officials would handle any such case. “I’m not recommending anything.”

Dion is quickly building a reputation as the “wrong choice” for Liberal leadership.

Mr. Dion’s aides acknowledged privately that the leader is trying to bring the controversy to a quick end and is unhappy that his misstep could raise the spectre of the sponsorship scandal again — noting that his leadership campaign had stressed that he was a veteran Liberal with untainted integrity.

Aides said his comments were an off-the-cuff answer to an unexpected question.

< sarcasm > That’s what I want in a leader …… good solid off the cuff answers!! < /sarcasm >

He is in big trouble when it’s time for a leadership debate.

Whoa…the Harper hypercrites are at it again…
they are in NO position to talk about flip flops and lying….the CON servatives don’t get it ..they were put in power with a thin minority by promising to do things differently instead they follow the same path of lies and deceit as the Liberals did. Please ….
perhaps the Liberals can take a page from the conservative song sheet and say “we did this because it was the right thing to do”…
what a joke…and people are concerned about voter interest and turn out….this kind of garbage from both parties is the problem.

I’ve worked with many PhD’s in the past. I’ve found ( and yes this is a genralization, as I have not worked with them all) is that they are brilliant abstract thinkers, but once they get to that level of abstract thinking, there’s not much roon for common sense.

Why am I getting the impression the Liberals out there are a bit miffed that they just had their leadership convention and they are already groaning over their choice?

Tori, yes. “Common sense” and “PhD” is somewhat of an oxymoron.

Mulder, I don’t think they ever imagined this would happen.

Does anyone have access to the full Globe article?

Why did the media pass a perfect opportunity to press Kermit on why he won’t reveal the identity of the 12 liberal candidates that recieved the dirty money?

He admitted that a wrong was committed and that 12 candidates recieved the money. Why stop short, whats the big secret?
Don’t voters deserve to know the truth?

If they don’t divulge the real recipients, then we must assume that the liberal candidate in our own respective ridings must be the one who got the filthy lucre.

They all sing out, I, most certainly am not a crook. Well, at least 20% of their caucus MUST be.

I don’t know — but if I can’t nail the right 20 of them, then I’ll just assume that they’re all guilty; at least until “Clarity” Muppet Dion PhD, exposes the true theiving bastards.

To Alberta girl….have you had your head in the sand for the last year??? They have lied about income trusts….they have placed unelected Mulrooney bagage into the senate and given them plum ministerial positions….they have enticed MPs to cross the floor…they have shut the door on openness and transparancy….the list goes on…please these guys are nothing but CON artists who duped people into voting for them by PROMISING to do things differently…they are no better than the Liberals …
you can pretend otherwise…they are flip floppers and liars.

RT Bdrrouard (#12) You’re real rich. The Income Trust change of direction the Conservative party made was them correcting their decision to SAVE tax payers billions. Unlike, for example, the Liberal decision to take a program like the gun registry, assumed to cost $2M and when they tried to correct their assumption it cost us an additional $998 Million.

The floor crossing by Wajid Khan was not an enticement, it was the inept new leader of the Liberals forcing him out by making him choose between helping Canada or helping his Party. Any MP in their right mind would have made the decision he made.

Where you say they shut the door on openness and transparency, i say they brought in the Accountability Act which opens up access to information like never before. Just wait until you can go ask for expense information of the CBC executives. This move will save tax payers BILLIONS annually out of shaming people who overspend our dollars alone.

The rest of your arguments are ad hominem attacks not worth my time. Anyone can name call.

Actually, here is one better for you RT. Under the 156 or so months the Liberals ruled there were 33 RCMP Investigations. That comes out to about 3 a year. Count em. One every 4 and a half months on average.

    The Conservatives haven’t had one.

    Go do the math.

    ToTrustOnly…..
“Go do the math”? (its arithmetic really)…how about “fair and balanced” or perhaps “read the book”….what do you work for fox?….and back to reality….you can try and spin it any way you want….lies are lies….
according to your logic then Dalton McGuinty never lied … he simply “changed direction”…ya ok then….keep preaching to the choir because the congregation isn’t listening anymore.

RT Berrouard (#15) No, it is not the same as Dalton McGuinty, because Dalton could have corrected his errors, taken away some ridiculous make work program for his Liberal lawyer cronies and (*i will repeat*) NOT raise taxes on citizens. What YOU are failing to understand is that when the Liberals make a mistake our taxes go up. When the Tories make a mistake, they fix it without our taxes going up.

You can call it lying. I call it looking after the citizens of our country. We can agree to disagree, and there will always be some in politics there for the pork barrelling. I just prefer a much smaller pork barrel that the Tories work with over any other parties.

And I don’t work for Fox. They are American and to be honest, I pay very little if any attention to American politics.
