Another Liberal Supporting The Budget?? Is Keith Martin Coming Home?

If I heard correctly in todays Oral Questions, Jim Flaherty mentioned that the member from Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca (Liberal Keith Martin) plans on supporting the budget.

Hmmmm…..

Keith Martin actually left the Canadian Alliance Party to sit as an Independent before running for the Liberal nomination back in 2004 according to Wikipedia in protest of the merger between the CA and the PC Parties. He eventually won the nomination and the seat and sits as a Liberal now.

This could be a very interesting turn of events shaping up. Perhaps a homecoming?

It was a misquote in a local paper.

Might as well pretend it is real though, right?

Dion is losing seats before the writ is even dropped for the next election.

Not a misquote according to today’s edition of that local paper (Victoria Times Colonist):

MARTIN DECIDES TO VOTE WITH PARTY

Liberal MP Keith Martin (Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca) said Monday he was poised to vote in favour of the Conservative’s fiscal plan and against his own party.

But once back in Ottawa, having familiarized himself with the document and listened to leader Stephane Dion, Martin has concluded that B.C. was “shafted” and says he’ll vote against the budget.

Martin said he wasn’t whipped into line by the leader – “not at all” – but rather convinced that B.C. taxpayers should not be “subsidizing” Quebec taxpayerrs, day cares and post-secondary students.

“It’s completely unfair,” he said of 40 per cent of transfer payments going to one province. “For that reason and a few others, I’m not supporting the budget.”

Looks to me like he was actually whipped, definitely not misquoted.

    Whoa Keith

We pay you to look at the Big picture and you for one should know.
Unfair doesn’t come into it at this time so do yourself a favour and think it through
Quebec is being maneuvered into a corner and voters on either side of the QUEBEC ISSUE will be forced to finally make a decision as to where La Belle Dame will roost.
Mr Harper is an admirable strategist and as such is attempting to put Quebec into ‘check’
Whether or not it is ‘mate’ will depend on the old whore herself, though soon she will lose that option.

Then it will be the rest of Canada deciding her fate.

Forget about Keith Martin, he’s going down with the ship of fools and her Captain, Whiny Baby Dion.
