Al Gore Wins Booby Prize (Right After Winning Oscar)

Not 24 hours after Al Gore’s movie won an Oscar, he gets awarded the big booby prize. The hypocrisy that this man shows is on the grandest scale.

Last night (Feb. 25, 2007), Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gore’s mansion, [20-room, eight-bathroom] located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

I have reprinted the entire article above, a rarity for me, because the URL to Drudge seems to be one that may change.

gore could certainly set a better example but his decisions do not excuse the rest of us for acknowledging and responding to the inconvenient truths revealed in his award winning film.

Al’s mocumentary is typical liberal trash but follows Mr. Moore’s fiction works.

all this shows is that Gore lives in a large home. BFD large homes require more energy. Atleast he’s doing SOMETHING to reduce his energy footprint and because he lives in a large home does not mean energy efficiency is wrong or that anything in the documentary is wrong.

This just sounds like an opposing political group is attempting to sway public opinion of Gore, and his message, and nothing more.

“At least he’s doing SOMETHING to reduce his energy footprint and because he lives in a large home does not mean energy efficiency is wrong or that anything in the documentary is wrong.”…installing some solar panels? how is that going to make up for the fact that he tells everyone to reduce energy consumption while he used 20x the amount everyone else does?

Al Gore isn’t a shining example of energy efficiency. He wouldn’t have a 20000 sqft home, a 4000 sqft home, constantly fly around the world to promote his film if he were.

Al Gore like David Suzuki are shining examples of “You can spend money without really conserving to feel good about yourself”

booger (#3) you must have only read the opening paragraph. Did you miss this sentence?

“Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.”

How big of a house he has is irrelevant. His power usage went up. i.e. he is using more power generated by coal fired power plants supplied by the Nashville Electric Service.

Any way you cut it, Gore is a hypocrite.

I think that the amount of energy he has CUT worldwide by getting the message out far outweighs a difference between 16,200 and 18,400kWh.

I imagine that AT THE VERY LEAST, 2200kWh of energy has been cut down by the collective of people who have listened to his message and taken action.

Personally, I’m in the market for new household appliances. I’ll be sure to purchace the most energy efficient Fridge, Stove and Washer/Dryer. Had the issue not been PRESSED the way that Gore has brought it out, I might not have even considered energy efficiency.

Any way you slice it, you have to commend Gore for his efforts.

It’s hard to commends hypocrites. He should be chastised for not setting a good example. Would you feel the same for a politician that is preaching goodness and clean living , yet is not doing it him/herself, I think not.

I conserve by my own accord, not because of blow hards like Gore.

China building 500+ coal fire power generation plants a year is a testament to that message

Of course his energy costs went up since the release of his “documentary”. It is playing 24/7 on half the TVs in the house, using sound surround systems. The other half would be on continous loops of him meeting other celbrities. I assume in a house this size he ikely has 10 maybe 15 sets, and probably a small theatre as well. Gotta feed that ego.
