"Pull The Troops Rally" Gets 500 In Toronto. Support The Troops Rally Gets Thousands In Kingston.

I watched on and off this weekend as various news agencies reported on the numerous rallys across the country which were to raise awareness by moonbats to pull the troops out of Afghanistan. But one thing I noticed is that Toronto, the nation’s most populous city, could only muster about 500 protesters. Considering Toronto has a population of 4 Million or so and with the surrounding areas you can bump that up to 6 or 7 Million, I would have to say that the rally was a failure.

Meanwhile, there was a rally in Kingston where the Kingston Battalion marched into the city after being granted the key to the city. In the rain, there were thousands there watching.

I think when you compare the two rallys, it is quite obvious that there is a big difference in the amount of support.

I realize one was a rally against a mission and the other was one in support of troops. But the ratio of support was ridiculous. 1 in 8000 showed up for the Afghanistan pullout rally and at least 1 in 60 showed up to support the troops in Kingston. Considering Red Friday in Ottawa had 30,000 out of a million you can say that 1 in 35 or so showed up to support the troops in Ottawa.

I think the leftoid protesters need to toss in the towel.

ADDENDUM: I guess Toronto isn’t the only city with a crappy turnout for the leftoid protesters. Kate at SDA has a CBC post (yes I was shocked the CBC reported it too) that indicates in Edmonton only 100 or so protesters turned out.

ADDENDUM:  As BBS points out in the comments, the anti war rally in Windsor had a meager 50 or 60 people.  That had to take the wind from their sails!!  A city of over 210,000 people and they could only drag out 1 in 3500.  I wonder how many of those were Americans who made the trip across the river.

judging by the tv coverage you would think that the whole country was rising against the war; and they say they aren’t biased, OK

Did you see the list of supporters for Layton’s treasonous rallies? Mostly Muslim and Islamic organizations with a few marxists thrown in.

Yup – the Taliban have their own supporters amongst us.

    sad isn’t it.

Judging by the Hijabs and Muslim skull caps for men it had all the traits of Dr.Elmasry’s CIC and Maher Arar’s buddies at CAIR that embrace Shariah-Law.

Being a Kingston native and knowing people in the local reserve regiment (the Princess of Wales Own Regiment), I was really happy to hear this. Compared with the rallies in the largest cities in Canada, thousands coming out in a city of 125,000 people is a lot more impressive.

All this coverage of a couple hundred people “braving the rain”? THOUSANDS turned out on Parliament Hill to actually support our troops – protests like these are nothing more than pitiful gestures on behalf of the radical left.

I had to put up with protestors going down to Peter MacKay’s constituency office in downtown Antigonish – it seems even so far out, the moonbats still insist on peddling their wares.

Well Edmonton did have snow, but I would hardly call it “driving”, I still went out shopping, just a normal day here, but I guess weather will be blamed for a pathetic showing.

I bet the “Support The Troops” rally here in Edmonton this Friday (11:30 in Sir Winston Churchill Square) brings out more people than this rally did for all of Canada!

The media has not clued into the fact that blogs are taking over, it’s the new, inexpensive way to hear, and make the news.

Turnout for the anti-war rally in Windsor was about 50 to 60 people.

You have to remember that Kingston is a military town, while Toronto is not. Last month’s rally in Ottawa was impressive because you have more DND personnel and several reserve units here.

By contrast it’s pretty hard to establish that the military actually *has* a presence in Toronto because there are too many competing public interests — arts groups, ethnic associations, etc. — who gather here because of the media presence and the telecom infostructure.

Support the troops rallies will likely be bigger in Halifax and Victoria than in Vancouver due to the Naval (and in the case of Halifax, Air Force) presence in the former cities, and in Quebec City instead of Montreal because of the armoury and reserves presence.

Re. the weather, let’s not forget the thousands that turned out in Toronto in Nathan Phillip’s Square in a sleet storm to support the US in the GWOT after 9/11. The worse weather then didn’t stop us; there’s no defence for “poor weather = low turnout” for an “our troops are baby killers” rally.
