I just heard this on CTV’s nightly news. As much as I can try to empathize with with the family of the other 20 women Picton is accused of killing, I would hope that they understand that this is probably a defensive measure should Picton get off on some technicality or mistrial.
The judge in the case says that a trial in the other 20 cases is still a possibility which provides the Crown with some insurance.
I hope the family of the other 20 victims understand that this may not provide them with the complete closure they desire, but it is in the best interest of all Canadians.

It makes sense to split up the trial although how the judge chose the ones he did is a mystery. I wonder how long before the other trial (or trials?) go ahead.

At first I was angry but after hearing the details I think this is a good idea.
Finding people willing/able to sit on jury duty these days is tough enough but these cases will be grueling and far too long for most people. Breaking it up should make it easier on everyone but I imagine the costs won’t be pretty.
The only thing I heard about the six selected is that they are somehow “different” than the others, ban prevents us from knowing anything else.

This is such a sad case, this man is so sick. But there are so many like him out there. And they just never get caught. 90% of all sexual assaults never get reported to the police. 1/2 of those reported never get convicted. And the ones that do, only get a slap on the wrist. Especially child sexual assaults. Most often 75% of all sexual assaults on children are by family. It is so important to educate our children, not only about strangers, but about their own family, and other children. What do you do when a court system orders you to give your child to the other parent who abused them, due to evidence or my theory another bought off judge and lawyer(s), think it can’t happen to you, think again. And that it is not only men who rape, it is also women, more and more cases everyday are coming out about women raping children. The sadest is to me, is when other children molest children. So education is the key here.
The gov and the Justice’s excuse for not locking these monisters up is that it costs so much to incarcerate them. Repeat sex offenders should be sent to the Army, and then off to war. If they come back it is god’s will, if they don’t would they really be missed!!!
