You either pay attention or pay through the nose. I would rather pay attention.

These numbers must be driving the collectivist loons crazy. Only 1/3! I expect we will see the lefties demonstrating en masse because this figure has not yet reached 100%. But then, I guess if you don’t count those who actually think working for a living is worthwhile (perhaps 50% of the populace), the socialists only need another 17% to acheive their goal of big government Nirvana.

‘Some form of welfare’? Really, that could be anything. You’re eligible for a Pell grant? You’re on welfare! I’m sure that there are MANY working people (of all political stripes) taking advantage of government programs that would count as some sort of ‘welfare’ under this definition. I see wealthy people trying to increase their eligibility for federal programs (like financial aid for their children) every day of the week – it’s not just ‘poor’ people gaming the system. And I would say that lowering taxes for people could also be considered a form of welfare, fwiw.

So if Uncle Fred living in the basement is on disability due to his military wounds, the entire family of, say, 6 is now counted as being “on welfare”. Ditto for Smart Suzie’s gov’mnt backed college loan in another family of 5. And there’s a single mom struggling to feed her 4 kids who gets $60/week of food stamps (which pump money directly back into the retail economy), that whole family are now all “welfare bums”. The list goes on – there’s dozens of other programs for which this ludicrous blanket stat brands the whole household (anyone in the household, not just family) as being on welfare. A completely nonsensical made-up stat, which everyone on the far right believes – because reality be damned, they want to.
