Meet The New Boss, Same As The Old Boss

When I heard the Liberals were looking for renewal, I figured they would put in someone with a new face. Either Gerrard Kennedy or possibly even Ignatieff if they were feeling a bit more peckish.

But for them to return Stephane Dion says a lot about the party. By the last ballot, Dion was getting the support of Joe Volpe. He was getting the support of Bob Rae and Bob’s brother, an infamous Chretienite. He was getting support from those who felt he did a good job as the Environment Minister for the Chretien and Martin camps.

The bottom line is that today, the Liberals showed just what the level of interest was in renewal. That level is bo diddly squat.

I hope Canadians are paying attention. Dion may be a new name. But he is as old school as the rest of the Chretien crowd.

Exactly. Why is this so hard for Liberals to understand? You should see the thread at Red Tory. They just don’t get it.

Whatever, I wish them luck on that one.

I’m not so sure… I would say Dion is a more serious threat than Iggy, easily on par with Rae.

    Mac,
I agree. Iggy was a non-starter, he fooled the Libs but didn’t have a chance at the polls. Rae would have tanked in Ontario. Dion was the best choice – not extreme, intelligent, knowledgeable – and from Quebec. Classic Liberal.

    I wouldn’t write him off…

A number of times, I’ve wondered if Iggy might have been brought in as a deliberate duffer; someone to draw the heat, to launch policy balloons, to test the waters for the backroom boys who ultimately make the choice. Imagine if Iggy hadn’t wondered about recognizing Quebec as a nation within Canada… and a half-dozen other ideas which Iggy was almost always first to launch? The only part I don’t get is why Iggy would cooperate; what’s in it for him?

Dion is an experienced MP who has spent time in caucus, on Privy Counsel and as a Minister under both Chretien and Martin. As a senior minister for Quebec who was part of the Liberal’s team who helped repair the damages done by Chretien before, during and after the last referendum, I have to wonder… just how deeply did Dion dip into the AdScam funds?

Justin Trudeau considered himself the Liberal Party Incarnate – and campaigned relentlessly on The Environment. Was it for Dion? No. Kennedy.

Brison dedicated his convention speech to The Environment. For Dion? No. For Rae.

What does it say when the Liberals who say that their sole purpose in life is The Environment (aligning themselves with countless Conservatives) choose candidates other than the former Federal Minister of the Environment. Does it not suggest that he didn’t get things done?

Naah, let’s not confuse fact with fiction. These are Liberals, after all.

My theory as a conservative watching (and gagging) from the sidelines.

Kennedy made a deal with Dion (how nice) – Kennedy was supported by Trudeau (gag) – Hmmmmm – let me see – next leadership race (well, coronation) Justin Trudeau with 100% support on the 1st ballot!!!

My take is this is a holding pattern until they can groom the Great one to take over the party.

My take as a conservative watching is that Kennedy was very publically supported by the Great Prince, Trudeau (gag, gag, gag), Kennedy threw his support behind Dion.
Dion will be an interim leader until the Great Prince ascends to the throne.

Excuse me while I go puke…..

Mac (others) I am not saying Dion isn’t a threat. I am just saying that he isn’t a voice for renewal. The part bragged so much about renewing themselves after Adscam and I, too, wonder how much dipping into the $100M slush fund he did.

The Liberals used our money to make it a battle between Liberal and Bloc. Not once did they think it would take a Conservative to step in and fix the problems Trudeau and Chretien created.

As for the prince…..Donna you may be right. As much as I think Justin knows nothing about politics, he has a name that can earn him a lot of unwarranted votes.

Sadly, you’re right… the Trudeau name is gold, even if the Trudeau legacy is dross.

Hahaha! I love it!! The guy who was leading in the polls is pretty much a non-Canadian & the guy in second bankrupted Ontario. Then they pick the guy in 3rd who was a Jean puppet who doesn’t appeal to anyone outside of Quebec, who increased our emissions 35% as the Minister of the Environment and is linked to the sponsorship scandal!

I almost fell off my seat when he bragged about the Liebrals being good for the environment!

The only good thing this guy did was the Clarity Act

Dion “borrowed” most of the Clarity Act from a Private Member’s Bill called the Quebec Contingency Act authored by (you guessed it!) Stephen Harper.
