Left."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When an artist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsws.org\/articles\/1999\/oct1999\/muse-o05.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">creates a painting of the Virgin Mary with elephant dung<\/a>, the left leaning art lovers flock to support the artist.<\/p>\n<p>Yet when a great rock song (another form of art) contains the word &#8220;faggot&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ottawasun.com\/news\/canada\/2011\/01\/12\/16865151.html\" target=\"_blank\">the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council bans it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I am neither advocating or criticizing either piece of art. \u00a0My only two concerns are:<\/p>\n<p>a) \u00a0If art lovers defend and protect one, they should defend and protect the other and if they condemn one they should condemn the other. \u00a0i.e. what&#8217;s good for the goose is good for the gander.<\/p>\n<p>and<\/p>\n<p>b) I do not want my tax dollars supporting either. \u00a0Let art stand on its&#8217; own merits. \u00a0If people love the painting, they will flock to the exhibit to make sure the artist and the exhibitioners are rewarded. \u00a0And if people love the song, then people will flock to buy the album\/CD etc to support the artist and production studio.<\/p>\n<p>Disclosure: \u00a0I did not view the art. \u00a0I do own the Dire Straits Brothers in Arms CD.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When an artist creates a painting of the Virgin Mary with elephant dung, the left leaning art lovers flock to support the artist.
